SHOCKER AWARD for ELI ROTH with Festival Director G.R. CLAVERIA
Shockfest Testimonial from BILL OBERST JR.
"The wins and the reviews from that Shockfest premiere started buzz about the film all over the horror blogosphere. A few months later the "Children Of Sorrow" team signed a major distribution deal with After Dark Films.
I am personally convinced that the international exposure Shockfest gave to "Children Of Sorrow" was a pivotal factor in making this impressive distribution deal happen, and I know that the Best Actor win at Shockfest had an immediate impact on the quality and level of the film roles which I began to be offered.
Artistically and commercially, I can testify that Shockfest matters, and that a screening at Shockfest matters!"
Shockfest Testimonial from DEVANNY PINN
There are thousands of film festivals you can submit your movie to.
I have been to festivals all over the country and had films play all over the world. When it came time to make choices for my own film The Black Dahlia Haunting, we were working on an VERY limited budget so we would only be able to submit to a couple places. We knew we wanted to get it in front of as many people as possible and maximize our opportunity to receive distribution, so I did extensive research on outlets that we thought might get us there.
Thank God we chose to submit to Shockfest Film Festival. I had attended the year before and presented an award to fellow Troma buddy James Gunn. The venues were higher end Hollywood locations, but atmosphere was light and fun. The festival was full of legitimate industry professionals who were simply having a good time and celebrating cinema.
After meeting with the Claveria's who run the fest, it was clear that their festival reflects their own outlook on film and sincere love for what they do.
THESE PEOPLE CARE. They like movies, they understand the filmmaking process and they genuinely want to help the filmmakers get their art in front of audiences and the world.
And that is exactly what they did for me. I knew that by choosing to submit to ShockFest that I would have a good time and be among people who were fans of the genre. I did not know what a crucial part it would play in the life of my film.
The festival board granted BDH the opening night film and 10 award nominations, 3 of which we humbly took home. The screening lit a fire under our movie! Shockfest attendees took to the internet and their friends- word of mouth literally kept our little movie in the limelight for the past year.
The validation and credibility from Shockfest not only helped secure our distribution deal just months later, but helped us secure outlets and numbers equivalent to million dollar, studio level releases.
My Best Actress win from this Hollywood fest has not only helped elevate the quality of film roles and movies I am offered, but it has helped secure a higher level agent, larger pay scales and international interest.
Brandon Slagle has received numerous offers to write/direct since his Best Director win, a distribution deal for our follow up film Dead Sea and film slate offers from various outlets and even studio interest!
Shockfest is a launching pad, plain and simple. Anyone interested in Seriously getting the most exposure and the best distribution outlets for their film MUST put this festival on the top of their list.
As an actress and a filmmaker I cannot recommend Shockfest enough! Thank you Guil, Alesha and the whole team for bringing my art and I to an incredible new level.
